Let me first say Wow what an amazing story! I don't know how I stumbled across this but I'm glad I did. When I was in the 6th grade a classmate was crocheting during recess. I was so intrigued on how she was able to manipulate the yarn into a hat, I asked her to teach me...and so she did. I began my first creation with a small skein and a pencil, yes a pencil! While on a weekend visit at grandma's she asked, "Sugar what you doing" I said, crocheting." She then told me, Chile that will be much easier with a crochet hook. She gave me my first hook (size I) She then proceeded to shown me how to double crochet! Later on at home i found out my mom could crochet too! I had no idea! She showed me how to make my first afghan. I made & gave away so many of my hand crafted items I lost count. I have to admit everything from 1992 to 2001 was a little irregular (practice makes perfect). In 2012 my hubby and I welcomed our princess into the world. I was online looking for a crochet doll for her to love and cherish. But alas, I never found what I was looking for, perhaps I had too many requirements. I wanted it to be dark brown with brown eyes, I wanted the hair to be style in natural African American style (not a afro) and cute. Lastly I didn't want the doll to resemble a voodoo doll or look to grown or sexy. I became so frustrated I decided to create my own doll thus the "Sistah Girlz" & "The Blessed Brothas dolls" were created. I do not sell them. I put them up for adoption. After a conversation with a fellow crocheter I decided in 2016 every donation will go into my childrens college fund.
